The development (Part 1) and application (Part 2) of virtual controllers have already been described. They decouple hardware and software and offer machine and system manufacturers and operators a number of advantages. Delivery bottlenecks in hardware are no longer a problem. Part 3 now goes one step further and describes why virtual PLCs can also be used to control potentially dangerous machines and systems.
