The IO-Link Consortium represents the interests of manufacturers promoting the first standardized IO technology worldwide (IEC 61131-9) for the communication with sensors and also actuators. The powerful point-to-point communication is based on the long established 3-wire sensor and actuator connection without additional requirements regarding the cable material. So, IO-Link is no fieldbus but the further development of the existing, tried-and-tested connection technology for sensors and actuators.
KNX® is the worldwide standard for home and building control. KNX Association is the creator and owner of the KNX technology – the worldwide standard for all applications in home and building control, ranging from lighting and shutter control to various security systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, monitoring, alarming, water control, energy management, metering, as well as household appliances, audio and many more.

ODVA® (OpenDeviceNet Vendor Association) is an international association supporting network technologies based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP™). These currently include the network adaptations of CIP—EtherNet/IP™, DeviceNet™, ControlNet™, EtherNet/ IP™ and CompoNet™—and major application extensions to CIP—CIP Safety™, CIP Sync™ and CIP Motion™. ODVA manages the development of these open technologies, and assists manufacturers and users of CIP Networks through tools, training and marketing activities.
The “Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) eG” supports companies in the use of open source software in products. This support refers both to the license-compliant distribution of open-source software and the necessary adaptation of company processes as well as to the development, maintenance, quality assurance and sustainability of the software. PLCopen® is an organization in the field of industrial control.
