With the web-based development tool Codesys Go!, Codesys aims to bridge the gap between traditional OT and modern IT development. The platform-independent solution enables the seamless integration of IEC programming into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows for the first time. In this interview, Roland Wagner, Leo Bareth, and Martin Decker explain why Go! is not a competitor to the established V3, but rather a complement to it—and how the identical runtime for both tools guarantees full compatibility.
Codesys Go – what is it and how does it differ from the proven Development System V3?
Roland Wagner: The Codesys Development System V3 is and remains our established workhorse with an enormous range of functions. Codesys Go! will complement it, not replace it. But V3 is a pure Windows tool—it runs on Linux at most in a VM. That's no longer enough today. Go!, on the other hand, is consistently platform-independent: the backend runs on Windows or Linux, the frontend in the browser. You can even install the backend directly on a powerful controller!
