The real-time Ethernet system EtherNet/IP (or EtherNet Industrial Protocol or EIP) is an open standard promoted and maintained by the user organization ODVA®. EtherNet/IP is built on the application layer “Common Industrial Protocol” (CIP), extends the standard protocols TCP or UDP and makes it possible to operate standard networks and automation networks in parallel.
By means of the products integrated in CODESYS, industrial controllers (PLCs) with an available Ethernet port can be extended to provide EtherNet/IP scanner and/or adapter functionality without additional hardware.
CODESYS EtherNet/IP Scanner (originator/master)
- Integrated configurator for the scanner and the connected adapters (targets/slaves)
- Import of adapter EDS files
- Integrated scanner (master) protocol stack as a CODESYS library, programmed in IEC 61131-3 code
- Alternatively: a driver for Hilscher® EC1 or netX-based Ethernet connection with EtherNet/IP stack as well as a runtime system component for direct access to the Ethernet/IP master card
- User library for Ethernet/IP services (messages for the remote control of connected EtherNet/IP devices)
- Diagnostics functionality for the scanner and for connected adapters (slaves) or their I/Os in the CODESYS Development System as well as in the IEC 61131-3 application at runtime
